Questions & Answers

What is a custom organic sunless airbrush spray tan?

A custom organic sunless spray / airbrush tan is the most realistic looking sunless tan without the harmful UV rays from the sun and tanning beds. The results are even, natural, flawless, and last anywhere from 5-14 days depending on how well the client prepares for and maintains the sunless tan. The airbrush system eliminates streaks, orange hands and feet, blotchy patches and dirty looking knees and elbows through customized tans for every skin tone and use of a detail brush for precision on tricky areas of the body. Our solutions is Eco-Certified DHA which is the European form for Organic DHA. Its more gentle and free of impurities and produces a more realistic color as well.

How does custom organic sunless spray / airbrush tanning work?

A trained professional tanning consultant will come to the client’s desired location or salon location with everything needed for the service, including a pop-up tent for the client to stand in while being airbrushed (so as to avoid creating a mess to clean up after the sunless tanning service). The Tanning Consultant will apply the natural and organic sunless tanning formula onto your body with Airbrush Tanning equipment. The main ingredient, dihydroxyacetone – DHA (a non-toxic sugar), reacts with the amino acids on your skin's outermost layer to create a browning effect. This reaction is similar to when an apple is cut in half, is left out in the air, and turns brown.

Is it Safe?

Yes. The main ingredient in our sunless tanning solutions is known as dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is a simple non-toxic sugar and is derived from plant sources such as sugar beet and sugar cane. DHA was first used as a sugar substitute in the 1920’s. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless or self-tanning products that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. DHA has been used in cosmetic preparations for almost 30 years. In the 1973 the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) added DHA permanently to their list of approved cosmetic ingredients.

DHA-based sunless tanning has been recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation, American Academy of Dermatology Association, Canadian Dermatology Association and the American Medical Association , World Health Organization, American Cancer Society, and the FDA.

                                                         Is it new?
No, it's not new on the market; DHA has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for over 39 years! However, the science behind this product has made leaps and bounds in the last 10 years! They have discovered, by adding a small amount of erythrulose (a natural based keto-sugar) and lowering the concentration of DHA, that it almost entirely eliminates the unwanted "orange" appearance. With the proper choice of DHA concentration per skin type, and proper care of your skin, you're sure to fool anyone into believing that you have a real tan these days.

How long does a spray tan last?

The average result is 7 to 10 days of color, but our Sunless Airbrush Tan has been said to last as long as 14 days! Factors such as skin type, activities/lifestyle, workout routine, and maintenance can cause results to vary.

How long does it take to apply?

An average session takes about 30 minutes (including set up and takedown time). The application process alone takes about 15 minutes.

Will this service leave behind a mess?

No. Due to the state of the art sunless airbrush tanning equipment, there is very little over-spray and the client stands in a mobile tent (supplied by your Tanning Consultant). Any cosmetic bronzer that may get on your clothes or sheets prior to your 1st post-tan shower, will come out of most materials (excluding leather, silks, and suede).

How can I maintain my color all year round?

As your skin naturally exfoliates, your tan will start to fade. At this point you can start the preparation and application over again.  Please note: because sunless tanning is a reaction that takes place on the very outermost layer of your skin (not a dye or stain), the more regularly that you tan, the more ideal and long-lasting the results.
